With word that the iconic FNY is being forced to close it’s doors after just three years. The pretty young things of lower Manhattan have been queuing around the block every night desperate to have the chance for one more dance before the mirror ball stops turning.
FAIRYTALE OF NEWYORK is the nightclub that changed all the rules. From the moment it opened its doors, it startled the world with its convention - shattering attitude. So preternaturally pleasurable, many said it couldn't last, but while it does, there is, without doubt, no more thrilling nightlife than Fairytale of New York.
The nightly queue of eager fashionistas and beautiful people stretches around the block. They stand there more in hope than expectation of beating the unforgiving door policy and becoming part of a rampaging cultural movement that is making its mark on the city. 'A dictatorship at
the door and democracy on the floor'. Only the chosen few will ever know what it feels like to be pulled from the crowd and asked to walk along the infamous black carpet.
"THE NIGHT CLUB INTERIOR WAS BREATH-TAKING"
They compare creating ‘the room’ to casting a play – One night you are perfect and allowed in, the next night nothing will get you past the rope, celebrity or not. Glittering interiors designed by leading artists of the time provide the glamorous backdrop for the party to quickly build before exploding into a
whirlwind of vibrant colours, frenzied excitement and underground disco sounds that pulsate late into the Manhattan night. Four tons of glitter dumped in a four-inch layer on the floor for a private party last year, described like "standing on stardust" left a trail of glitter that could be seen months later in the surrounding streets.
Authorities have refused to officially comment on why the club is being threatened with closure, but if the rumours can be believed, the Fairytale of New York is being denied it’s happily ever after. For the lucky ones who make it in before the doors are closed forever – Enjoy the magic, while it still lasts.
